Fruit forward aromas of olallieberry, black raspberry and ripe plum mingle with hints of earth and toffee. Vibrant flavors of blackberry and truffles are enveloped in a rich, round texture. The balance and structure of this wine ensure a long life.
Located on the Rava Estate adjacent to the winery, Los Robles Vineyard is positioned within the El Pomar District, one of eleven sub appellations in the Paso Robles AVA. The vineyard features warm daytime temperatures and cool marine breezes late in the day that flow through the Templeton Gap. The soils are a mix of loam, clay and limestone, providing excellent drainage and ideal conditions for growing Italian varietals.
The Primitivo, Nebiollo and Teraldego grapes were hand picked on the same day and co-fermented in small fermentation bins. To achieve maximum flavor and color extraction, the bins were punched down three times daily. When the fermentation reached dryness, the wine was pressed and transferred to American oak barrels (50% new oak) where it aged for 10 months.
An unseasonably warm spring and below average rainfall for the fifth consecutive year contributed to an early harvest in 2016. During the harvest window, cool temperatures alternated with warmer spells, allowing vintners to pick grapes at optimum levels. Yields were low, which translated to excellent wine quality.
